MIGRATION GUIDE · REVIEWED OCTOBER 23, 2026

Keep your MCP tools connected.

Smithery retires its proxy and connection services on October 31. Find affected settings and move to documented publisher endpoints.

What changes

URLs on run.tools and server.smithery.ai stop working, along with Smithery API, Connect, Toolbox, accounts and API keys. Its CLI and SDKs will be deprecated.

What stays

Smithery remains a public MCP registry powered by Arcade. Publisher-operated MCP servers are separate services; use their documented URLs and authentication.

Check your MCP configuration

Paste JSON with an mcpServers or servers object. Analysis stays in this tab. No signup, server calls or configuration uploads.

Checks remote URLs and command arguments for retiring domains and Smithery packages. It does not test authentication, nested wrappers, TOML or YAML.

Migrate in four steps

  1. Back up your current client configuration and identify retiring connections.
  2. Verify each replacement in publisher documentation. Similar names are not proof of ownership.
  3. Configure the direct endpoint or supported local package, then authenticate with the publisher. Preserve unrelated client settings.
  4. List tools and try a read-only operation. Check permissions before enabling write actions.

Applications managing connections for customers also need a replacement for Smithery’s authentication and session management. A URL change alone does not provide that infrastructure.

Verified replacement coverage

This first edition maps two documented Linear proxy aliases to one publisher endpoint. Other affected entries remain unresolved. We do not have measured usage data to rank affected servers, and this is not a market-wide migration coverage figure.

Linear’s publisher documentation confirms the endpoint and authentication; Smithery’s announcement identifies the old aliases. Sources reviewed October 23, 2026. No authenticated tool calls were performed as part of this source review.

Migration questions

Is Smithery shutting down completely?

No. Smithery says its public MCP registry remains online, powered by Arcade. Its proxy, API, accounts and connection services stop on October 31, 2026.

Can API Tracker replace Smithery connection management?

API Tracker helps you discover servers and review connection instructions. It does not replace hosted credentials, OAuth sessions or managed connections. MCP Connect is integration infrastructure for your own application.

Does this checker upload my configuration?

No. JSON is analyzed in this browser tab without contacting your servers, storing the input or sending it to an analytics service. Clear the form when finished.

Will the replacement keep my Smithery credentials?

No. The downloadable setup snippet contains only the reviewed publisher endpoint and connection command. Authenticate with the publisher in your client. Your original configuration is unchanged.
