How to connect the Parallel Task MCP server
To connect the official Parallel Task MCP server, add https://task-mcp.parallel.ai/mcp to your MCP client as a Streamable HTTP server, then sign in with OAuth when your client prompts you. If your client can't use OAuth, use a Parallel API key. Parallel Task documents setup for Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Claude, Codex, ChatGPT and Windsurf.

}Connect Parallel Task MCP step by step
Before you start
- A Parallel account on platform.parallel.ai. docs.parallel.ai/integrations
- Your account needs credits; requests fail with HTTP 402 when credits run out. docs.parallel.ai/integrations
- Parallel labels this standalone Task MCP server as legacy. It keeps running for existing users, but Parallel recommends its Parallel MCP server for new installs. No shutdown date is published. docs.parallel.ai/integrations
Authentication
- Your client → Parallel Task MCP
- OAuth sign-in, handled by your MCP client. docs.parallel.ai/integrationsmodelcontextprotocol.io/specification
- Parallel Task MCP → Parallel Task API
- The server acts on your account with the access you approve. docs.parallel.ai/integrations
Steps
- Open Parallel's Task MCP setup instructions for your client
- Add the Parallel Task MCP server to your client
Add https://task-mcp.parallel.ai/mcp as a remote MCP server that uses the Streamable HTTP transport. Parallel publishes one-click installs for Cursor and VS Code and configuration for many other clients, including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, ChatGPT developer mode and Windsurf.
- Sign in to Parallel in the browser
- If your client can't use OAuth, use a Parallel API key
Create an API key on platform.parallel.ai and send it as a bearer token in the Authorization header. Keep the key in an environment variable or secret store, not in shared configuration.
- List the server's tools
Your client should list the server's tools. That confirms the connection, not every API permission.
What we observed
- 5 Nov 2026: HTTP 401 with WWW-Authenticate resource_metadata https://task-mcp.parallel.ai/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp, which names the authorization server https://platform.parallel.ai and scope key:read. The error body mentions a missing x-api-key or Authorization header; Parallel's documentation describes only the Authorization header.
