# How to connect the Stripe MCP server

To connect the official Stripe MCP server, add https://mcp.stripe.com to your MCP client as a Streamable HTTP server, then sign in with OAuth when your client prompts you. If your client can't use OAuth, use an agent API key. Stripe documents setup for Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Claude, Codex and ChatGPT.

- Endpoint: https://mcp.stripe.com
- Transport: Streamable HTTP
- Registry: com.stripe/mcp 0.2.4
- Publisher documentation reviewed: 2026-11-05 (not a tested connection)
- Guide page: https://apitracker.io/mcp-guides/stripe-mcp

## Before you start

- A Stripe account or sandbox. When you connect with OAuth you choose which live mode accounts or sandboxes to grant, with separate permissions for each environment.
- Administrators can turn MCP access on or off for the whole team in the Dashboard, separately for live mode and sandboxes. If the connection is refused, ask an administrator to check MCP and CLI access settings.
- From December 2026 Stripe MCP stops accepting full-access secret keys and restricted API keys without the Agent tag. Use OAuth, or an agent API key.

## Steps

1. **Open Stripe's MCP setup instructions for your client** <https://docs.stripe.com/mcp>
2. **Add the Stripe MCP server to your client** Add https://mcp.stripe.com as a remote MCP server that uses the Streamable HTTP transport (often labelled "http"). Stripe also publishes one-click installs for Cursor and VS Code, a Claude connector, a ChatGPT plugin, and an agent plugin that configures supported clients automatically.
3. **Sign in to Stripe and approve access in the OAuth window**
4. **If your client can't use OAuth, use an agent API key** Create an agent API key with only the permissions the client needs and send it as a bearer token in the Authorization header. Keep the key in an environment variable or secret store, not in shared configuration. Don't use full-access secret keys or restricted keys without the Agent tag.
5. **Connect platforms: act for a connected account** OAuth isn't supported for connected accounts. Authenticate with your platform's agent API key and add a Stripe-Account header with the connected account ID.
6. **List the server's tools**
