## Before you start

- A Notion account that is a member of the workspace. Guests can't connect. Notion MCP works on every plan, though some features and request limits depend on plan.
- On Enterprise, admins can allow only approved AI apps. If the connection is blocked by workspace policy, ask a workspace owner or admin to approve the client.
- MCP tools act with your full Notion permissions and can access everything you can access.

## Steps

1. **Open Notion's MCP setup instructions for your client** <https://developers.notion.com/guides/mcp/get-started-with-mcp>
2. **Add the Notion MCP server to your client** Add https://mcp.notion.com/mcp as a remote MCP server that uses the Streamable HTTP transport. Use the SSE endpoint https://mcp.notion.com/sse only if your client doesn't support Streamable HTTP. Many assistants also list Notion in their connector or plugin directory. Clients that support only local servers can use the mcp-remote bridge.
3. **Sign in to Notion and choose the workspace to authorize**
4. **For non-interactive use, use an MCP token** On Business and Enterprise plans, a workspace owner can create an MCP token in the Notion developer portal. Send it as a bearer token in the Authorization header to the same endpoint; no browser sign-in is needed. Keep the token in an environment variable or secret store. Enterprise workspaces with SAML SSO can instead use enterprise-managed authorization through the identity provider.
5. **List the server's tools**
